And the benefits will amaze you even more.
WHY WE ALL NEED TO TAKE A BREATH
In a modern society filled with hustle and constant connection and tech, we often find ourselves feeling:
STRESSED
ANXIOUS
DEPRESSED
RUN DOWN
SICK
And we often chalk this up to "that's life!" or "everyone is stressed"
While both of these statements can be true,
It doesn't need to be our reality.
When we live in a constant state of stress, we run down our body.
This happens because stress activates our Sympathetic Nervous System,
The Fight-Flight-Freeze system.
When the sympathetic nervous system is constantly running high, our body sends all our energy and focus to avoid threats (real or perceived).
So we end up breathing through our chest, shallow breaths that don't reach all the way down.
This is seen as:
-Ruminating Thoughts
-Low Immune Function
-Inability to Relax
-Tense Muscles
-Chronic Fatigue
HOW DEEP BREATHING HELPS
Breathing might be able to solve all our problems,
Seriously, if your problems are caused by stress, anxiety, depression and the like.
Deep breathing communicates to your body that you are safe and relaxed, which switches from your Sympathetic Nervous System (fight-flight-freeze) to your Parasympathetic Nervous System (rest-digest)
Breathing from your belly also activates your Vagus Nerve which reduces stress, anger, frustration, reactiveness, and anxiety
Deep breaths fill your body with oxygenated blood which allows for your whole body to nourish its self, inside and out.
It also helps tonify the organs and releases old and stuck emotions and energy patterns.
And lastly, it feels damned good!
