As I am starting my first subscription for monthly #selfgrowth workshops, I am theming them around the Astrological Houses.
For those of your who are unsure what these Houses are, why they matter, or what they represent, let me break it down for you...
There are 12 Houses, just like there are 12 zodiac signs.
Each House is ruled by a zodiac sign and has certain qualities about it.
At the time you were born, each planet in each sign falls into a certain House.
For example, 6/10 planets in my chart fall into the 6th house, the house of Virgo.
This means the focus of this life and lessons will be in health, routine, and service.
Finding out your birth chart is easy, just google "natal chart" and enter in your information.
9/10 your mother knows what time you were born.
The time you were born is important because Your Ascendant (Rising) sign is the the zodiac on the Eastern most horizon when you were born. This Ascendant is always in your first house, which snapshots where all the other planets and constellations are in the houses, at the exact time you were born (read more about Ascendant here).
So let me explain what each house means:
First House:
Ruled by Aries, the first sign of the zodiac.
Represents the self, attitudes, appearance. Which ever planets in this house have a strong impact on your identity. Your rising sign is always in he first house.
For example, I have Jupiter (luck-expansion) in Leo (passion-attention), in this house of Self; meaning I will find luck and success when I use my self image to inspire others.
Second House:
Ruled by Taurus
Represents possessions, the senses, and security.
Which ever planets lie in this house lend to a strong desire to find security through material possessions.
For example having Mercury (mind) in Gemini (friendship) in the house of Possessions; means you use your skills with people and quick thinking and whit to make money and find pleasure.
Third House:
Ruled by Gemini
Represents communication, communal activities, and thinking/learning.
Which ever planets lie in this house are motivated to express themselves and find close relationships.
For example if Neptune (spirituality) in Sagittarius (exploration) in this house of Communication could mean you find meaning by forming and discovering bonds with people over their personal beliefs.
Fourth House:
Ruled by Cancer
Represents home life, comfort, family
Planets of yours that fall into this house lends to feelings and desires to nest or create inner security.
An example is having Saturn (discipline) in Aries (excitement) in the house of home-life may mean you tend to be concerned for, and desire control over family or your home environment.
Fifth House:
Ruled by Leo
Represents creativity, romance, children/inner child
Any planets in your chart that fall into this house lend to your desire to fulfill drama and passions.
For example, Pluto (transformation) in Virgo (service-oriented) in this house of Creativity might mean you are determined to bring social and health related change to the masses.
Sixth House:
Ruled by Virgo
Represents service, health, routines
Any planets that fall into this house will desire you to form routines around their characteristic needs.
For example, Moon (emotions) in Capricorn (dedication) in this house of Routine means you desire to find private time to unwind and make sense of emotions.
Seventh House:
Ruled by Libra

Planets that fall into this house will desire you to seek out balanced and fulfilling relationships.
For example the Sun (self) in Taurus (comfort) in this house of Partnerships might make you feel the need to define yourself by the quality of your close relationships
Eighth House:
Ruled by Scorpio
Represents death, regeneration, resources, sex
Planets in this house with in your chart will ask you to look for complexities and the mystical in life.
For example if your Uranus (originality) in Cancer (sensitivities) is in this house of Mystic, you might find personal expression through your intuitive and artistic abilities
Ninth House:
Ruled by Sagittarius
Represents exploration, philosophy, and ethics
Planets in your chart that lie in the ninth house will beg you to look for deeper meaning aspirations.
For example, if your Mars (sex/aggression) in Aquarius (uniqueness) is in your ninth house of Exploration, you might be energized by intellectual and sociological pursuits of other cultures.
Tenth House:
Ruled by Capricorn
Represents career, success, Midheaven (the pinnacle of your life story)
Planets that fall into this house will ask you to place focus on how to define and build your self in society
For example, if your Venus (pleasure) in Pisces (intuition) is in your tenth house of Success, you might build a career of caring for the wellbeing of others, or be famous for your sensual expressions and art
Eleventh House:
Ruled by Aquarius
Represents humanitarianism, revolution, and social connection
Planets that fall into this house ask you to work for the benefit of others and the greater good.
For example if your Sun (ego) in Scorpio (depth) is in this house of Humanitarianism, you might find yourself identifying as a mover and shaker, using passion for change.
Twelfth House:
Ruled by Pisces
Represents the subconscious, secrets, illusions
Planets that lie in the twelfth house ask us to connect to things unseen, or risk our undoing.
For example, if your Saturn (lessons) in Cancer (emotions) is in your house of Subconscious, you might feel limited on your ability to trust others with your deep sensitivities.
Now let's condense it even further,
Here is the recipe:
House
1. who we are
2. what we want
3. how we think
4. how we comfort
5. how we express
6. how we structure
7. how we relate
8. how we obscure
9. how we escape
10. how we build
11 how we aspire
12. how we dismantle
Why House are Important
It was once told to me
If Astrology were the Drama of our Life, planets would be the actors, zodiac signs would be the roles, and Houses would be the scenes.
The Houses tells us which parts of our lives are playing out in certain context.
Like if you have a few planets in House Five, you might have a heavy focus in this life to learn about your creative nature, or learning how to bring childlike wonder and passion with your into all things.
I think of them as the karmic lessons for this life. So if some of your houses are empty, don't worry, just focus on the Houses that are asking your to play out a Scene.
Each House has particular messages and lessons.
What are your Houses asking of you?
